UNDERSTAND THE TOOL
Scaling a recipe uses a ratio between the original number of servings and the number you want to make. Most ingredients can be multiplied by that scale factor, but cooking time, seasoning and pan size often need judgement as well.
Recipe Right calculates the scale factor by dividing desired servings by original servings. Each ingredient quantity can then be multiplied by that factor to produce a proportional starting point.
Not every part of cooking scales perfectly. Doubling a cake mixture does not necessarily mean doubling the baking time, and spices, salt, thickening agents and raising agents may need more cautious adjustment.
A recipe serving four that needs to serve six has a scale factor of 6 ÷ 4 = 1.5. An ingredient listed as 200 g therefore becomes 300 g before any practical cooking adjustment.
Usually not. Time depends on thickness, temperature, cookware and the food itself.
For small adjustments, beat the egg and use an appropriate proportion by weight or volume.
Yes mathematically, but very small ingredient quantities may be impractical and may need sensible rounding.
